The quality of food in our schools is of concern to many in our community. There are numerous reasons why schools serve fries, soda pop, and candy bars to students. Lack of funding for schools and cafeteria budgets, need for consistency with third-party suppliers, overloaded teachers and students' non-adventurous palates are only some of the reasons for the current state of school food. Making changes to this system is indeed a challenge.

Earthsave Canada's Healthy School Lunch Program (HSLP) wants to make it easier for students to eat healthy food and, in particular, more plant-based meals. We know that each school is unique with different needs and different goals for healthier food. Our role is to support schools in achieving these goals.

The HSLP has amassed many resources for schools wanting to get healthier food into cafeterias and classrooms. Access them by clicking on the links under the headings at right. We would love to come to your school's PAC to talk about how we can help you become a healthier school. Please email us at healthyschoollunches@earthsave.bc.ca for more info.

Stay tuned for information about our upcoming Healthy School Cookbook.
